Although her native instruments are flute and piano, founding Syndicate member Sarah stepped up to serve as the group’s sole trumpet player for their first several performances. It required constant practice to keep her chops up, and the long summer gigs literally hurt to play. She remained unfazed, however, and continued as the Syndicate’s lead (and only) trumpet player for nearly a year. After the addition of a few trumpet players to the group, Sarah moved to the piano. In addition to writing many of the group’s complex arrangements, Sarah can usually be found quietly working out and adding in the essential organ voices or driving rhythms that make each song distinctive.
